They are made from light materials which increase their ability to float and shaped in such a way that reduces the friction felt as it sail thus consuming less energy. Advanced mechanisms employed to transform and use tides and solar into energy for propelling have also been used.



The technology of automated remote control systems is been used to operate and run this small water boats. They have enabled navigation to various areas where the data needed can be found. They carry telecommunication instruments that enable them to take videos and sounds or any other unique data they are required to obtain depending on what purposes they have been designed to take. GPS tracking system is also used to show their progression in sailing and the direction they are headed to.

The vessels have been greatly used by the defense forces in safeguarding the international border lines especially on the waters. In the earlier years border patrols which involved sending navy officers using large boats were very risky due to the hazardous sea waves. The development and use of these boats has led to proper surveillance thus making the country safer.



It has become possible to collect necessary information regarding the sea weather and the strength of the ways and tides. This information has been useful especially by ship captains who can easily navigate the ship and know which areas to avoid. These have brought about significant reduction in the marine tragedies related to bad harsh sea weather.



Assailants have been able to use this technology and this has poised great danger to many nations. They have been able to spy on the security structure of other nations which has made it easy for terrorists to get in to the country. This has resulted to increased border porosity resulting to increased terrorist attacks in the country.



Numerous shortcomings have been downsized the level of results expected. Some vessels easily develop technical problems while on their operations. There is also a problem of bad network which may result to total disappearance of these boats and they cannot be traced. The waves may result to the sinking of the vessels.
