It Is Always Safety First When Using Hydraulic Hose Assemblies

By Arline Bradley

Hydraulic hoses differ from standard rubber hoses in the fact that they have a braided stainless steel sleeve within the outer sheath. This means that the hose can cope with much higher pressures. They also make use of couplings that are crimped on to ensure that there are no weaknesses in the system when they are in use.

These systems also have to be able to be disconnected very quickly so that they can be replaced or removed in such a manner that as little of the air pressure that has been built up within the system is lost. Hydraulic Hose assemblies are used quite a lot in the construction industry; and because they can be changed quickly and easily they can be used on the various tools that require this type of power without too much difficulty.

Because the demands put on the assemblies of this type by the industry due to their equipment becoming more sophisticated, therefore increasing the challenge. It is important that the manufacturers continually develop new techniques. When it is necessary that longer houses have to be used, it is common for a Teflon tube to be inserted into the hose to give it more strength.

Hydraulic hoses, due to the reinforcement of the outer sheath are a lot heavier, stiffer and sturdier than a standard hose. As well as being designed to withstand high pressures there is also a requirement for them to be able to withstand high temperatures. This is because heat will be generated during the action of pumping hydraulic fluid, drilling and operating tools such jack-hammers.

These days, a lot of these assemblies also incorporate a cooling system. This also adds a problem because the fluid within this system will also reach extremely high temperatures. It is therefore very important that safety inspections are carried out before each assembly becomes operational.

Hydraulic system manufacturers are always looking at new ways in which to improve their products, this includes making them stronger, lighter, and more supple. New materials are also being developed and used throughout the industry in order to meet the new challenges. In order to help meet tougher environmental situations. Some of these houses now have an extra layer of synthetic rubber, to avoid any problems from chafing and splitting

The complete assembly is made up of the the hose and the fittings. To ensure that it all fits together securely, and in a manner that it will work efficiently, the assembly must be done by a specially trained professional. They will be practiced in the correct way to complete the assembly so as to avoid a situation where the fittings become disconnected from the hose whilst in operation and causing a serious injury to a user.

It is important to stress that these assemblies can be dangerous if installed, or operated, by unqualified personnel. Equal importance should be to make sure that these assemblies are are used within a shorter ranges as possible so as to maximize their operational life. The limits, and specifications to using these assemblies are defined by either the government or the relevant governing organizations.
