The Leisure Of Living In Fifth Wheel Trailers

By Tanisha Berg

Several design choices are available. Considering a 30 or 50 amp fifth wheel trailers is one of the first priorities. More amperage means more flexibility when running several things at the same time. An example is running the air conditioner while warming up a meal in the microwave and making a pot of coffee. Other considerations include how many slide outs are preferred. The more slide outs, the more room there is. Options also include winterized packages or power and manual awnings.

One design changes the name of the home on wheels. When the trailer has a hitch on one side and a ramp on the back end of it, they are called toy haulers. Toy haulers give you the freedom to load toys such as ATVs, motorcycles, snow mobiles, and scooters.

This type of living can be very small and compact. Appliances and electronics are very small. The microwave is usually big enough for at least one plate and the oven has at least one rack in the center. The stove is usually just as small with two or three burners and a small range hood to go with it.

Most would like to downsize and choose a fifth wheel in doing so. Downsizing is done because the family is smaller or the price is much more feasible. The price of a fifth wheel is much more economical than an apartment home. In addition, most apartments or rentals do not have peace and quiet or a yard. RV parks can offer free amenities such as internet, cable, water, and sewage, which in turn alleviates expenses.

RVs use liquid propane which is advantageous in the mobility of the tank and the ease of a refill. Unfortunately, there is a downside to this option as well. A fifth wheeler uses an extensive amount of liquid propane in the winter. The propane is used for hot water, the stove, and oven as well as keeping warm

Another downside is weather or not the purchaser already has a full sized truck or SUV. A certain size and weight is necessary to pull a large trailer. When the purchaser already has an automobile to pull, then this issue is void. Something to consider is renting a vehicle to pull the home or requesting assistance from a fellow neighbor. Requesting assistance has its limitations because of distance.

Pulling the home is easily done, so traveling and moving on a whim to any location is feasible. Little effort is needed when moving from one place to another. The sewage, water, and electricity is the only thing connected to the ground. Slide outs are easily pulled back in with a switch similar to a light switch. Moving is as simple as finding an RV park with an empty lot or pulling alongside a tent on a beach side. The difference between a tent and a fifth wheel is comfort and amenities.

Class A trailers can be driven rather than pulled; however, comes with all the added upkeep of a vehicle. A class A is not as cost efficient as the fifth wheel. The lack of motor and other vehicle maintenance eliminates the added expense. In addition, eliminates the situation where the home is immovable because the automotive does not work.
